I Walked a Mile with Pleasure

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me.

-Robert Browning Hamilton

I first heard this poem as part of song written by Barry Magauire on the album "To the Bride" an early contemporary christian album. Much to my surprise and joy I ran across it in a book a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite poems.
