Why?

Why? Always a good question. Why another blog? Because I want to share my new found interest in poetry. I didn't like poetry much as a high school student, but over the last 20 years I started reading a little here and there and growing in my interest and liking for poetry. In the last few months it has grown to the point that I want to share what I am finding in the hopes that someone else may discover a love for poetry. Change that, I didn't have any hopes when this idea hit me, I just want to share and if someone else finds something good, great. So what poem or poems pushed me over the edge into this adventure. Two I read today and here they are.

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,

Enwrought with golden and silver light,

The blue and the dim and the dark cloths

Of night and light and the half-light,

I would spread my dreams under your feet;

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

W. B. Yeats

The lines about treading on dreams just grabbed my imagination today when I read them.

Here is the other poem that got me today.

ALONE

From childhood's hour I have not been

As others were -- I have not seen

As others saw -- I could not bring

My passions from a common spring --

From the same source I have not taken

My sorrow -- I could not awaken

My heart to joy at the same tone --

An all I lov'd -- I lov'd alone --

Then -- in my childhood -- in the dawn

Of a most stormy life -- was drawn

From ev'ry depth of good and ill

The mystery which binds me still --

From the torrent, or the fountain --

From the red cliff of the mountain --

From the sun that 'round me roll'd

In its autumn tint of gold --

From the lightning in the sky

As it pass'd me flying by --

From the thunder, and the storm --

And the cloud that took the form

(When the rest of Heaven was blue)

Of a demon in my view --

Edgar Allan Poe

Writings about seeing things differently from others have always attracted and intrigued me.

So my purpose for this site is to share poems that grab my attention and the books I find them in. Have a marvelous day.
